TOURS & TRIPS - PERMANENTLY CLOSED 9/12/2011 Family Tour Visitors don a hardhat and take the “Boss Buggy” shuttle from the well-equipped gift shop to 1,280 feet into this modern mine. A guide describes exhibits on the way down. The group disembarks from buggy and goes into The Gold Theatre to see a presentation comparing old mining and new mining techniques. The group then takes a walking tour through the mine learning about the evolution of mining from ancient fire breaking methods to modern day two boom drill jumbos. The geology of the mine is described and quartz veins containing gold are pointed out. Uses of gold are discussed. The group takes buggy back to gift shop. Mining Movies Included in the price of the underground tour, guests can visit the small movie theatre next to the gift shop complete with amphitheater style seating, big screen and step lighting. The theatre shows a documentary film on the Gold Rush, and a children’s film on modern mining techniques.
